Mets ace deGrom to IL, will have MRI

ST. LOUIS (AP) Mets ace Jacob deGrom is being put on the injured list and returning to New York for an MRI on his elbow after the NL Cy Young Award winner reported a sore right arm.

"He came in on the off-day and played a little catch and started feeling it a little bit," Mets manager Mickey Callaway said before Friday night's game at St. Louis. "We're not sure what it is."

The 30-year-old deGrom, who had been scheduled to pitch Saturday, is coming off two shaky starts. He is 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA in four games this season.


KC's Keller, ChiSox's Anderson suspended

NEW YORK (AP) Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson didn't go into detail Friday about what he said during a bench-clearing fracas with Kansas City earlier in the week after a report that he directed a racial slur at Royals pitcher Brad Keller.

Anderson was suspended one game for his actions Wednesday. Tempers flared after Keller hit Anderson, who had celebrated an earlier home run, with a fastball. Keller was penalized five games by Major League Baseball and is appealing.


Hernandez's HR pushes Dodgers' run to 6

MILWAUKEE (AP) Kike Hernandez had a daunting challenge.

Down to his final strike with two outs against All-Star Josh Hader, Hernandez lined a three-run homer over the left field wall to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 on Friday night.


Rockies' Blackmon has walkoff HR in 12th

DENVER (AP) With one final swing, Charlie Blackmon went from worrying about a game-ending strikeout to celebrating a game-winning home run.

Blackmon hit a two-out, two-run home run in the 12th inning, and the Colorado Rockies beat Philadelphia 4-3 on Friday night in a game that saw two Phillies players leave early due to injuries.


Struggling Red Sox beat MLB-best Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Mookie Betts hasn't looked much like the 2018 AL MVP yet. Two key hits Friday night might help jumpstart the Boston star's season.

Betts and Mitch Moreland hit back-to-back homers for the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning and the struggling Red Sox beat the MLB-best Tampa Bay Rays 6-4.
